You may have heard of the huge snow storm that affected the Northeast this weekend. Some areas received over a foot of snowfall and right now the death toll is at 3 people as a result of the storm. Although this is not an unusual storm for the area it is a bit early for this time of year. One phenomenon that occurred within the storm is what we call thundersnow. This happens when you have a large amount of snow falling at one time. It is essentially a thunderstorm with snow instead of rain. Meteorologist have stated that thundersnow only occurs about 12 times a year in the world, so it is something special to catch it on video like you see with the Jim Cantore video above.
