February is here, a month that has historically featured some pretty wintry weather in Acadiana. Weather records for Lafayette date to 1893. In that span, the coldest reading recorded was a bitter 6° on February 13, 1899. Just a few years before that, a monster snowstorm dumped feet of snow across coastal Texas and Louisiana. This image represents totals from a February 14-15, 1895 storm. Can you imagine?! There are no signs of snow this winter. In fact, there won’t be much cold air for the next couple of weeks as highs average in the 60s and 70s.
