Severe Weather?

A potent storm system will move through Acadiana early Thursday morning, giving us a chance of strong to severe storms late tomorrow night into early Thursday. The instability in the atmosphere will be weak, but the wind shear will be strong, so the greatest threat to Acadiana will be damaging winds. An isolated tornado will be possible, but that threat will be low. Most of the upper level energy with this system will pass north of Acadiana, so the better severe weather risk will be north of us. The Storms Prediction Center has placed half of Acadiana under a slight risk for severe weather, but I think the whole area has a chance of severe weather. I expect a line of storms to move across Acadiana between 1 AM and 5 AM, and along this line of storms, severe storms will be possible. Behind this system, much cooler air will return to Acadiana as temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s early Friday morning.
