Tropical Storm Sandy continues to strengthen and Sandy may become a hurricane over the next 24 hours. Sandy will move north toward Jamaica, then she should move across the eastern parts of Cuba. She may be a hurricane as she crosses Jamaica and Cuba. From there, Sandy will move toward the Bahamas, then out to sea as a weak hurricane or strong tropical storm. There is a small chance that Sandy will move toward the East Coast, but that’s not looking very likely at this point. Sandy will not move into the Gulf. If we were in the summer months, that scenario would be more likely. The chance of Acadiana seeing a tropical system between now and the end of hurricane season are very slim.
