Meteorological Summer Summary…

Although the calendar may not read fall for a couple more weeks, meteorological fall began September 1.  This is a good time to look back at meteorological summer, or the June-August period.  As expected before the season began, our temperature was a little below-normal, with the average temperature at -0.68°.  For rain, we ended up at +9.36″ compared to normal.  This tally is much better than the severe drought conditions the area experienced last year.  Going into the fall, temperatures and precipitation look close to normal.  The winter may end up being cooler and wetter than normal if El Niño conditions develop and linger into early 2013.  We’ll have a more-concrete take on the winter season in October.
